The AMA designated obesity as a disease in 2013. But there is still much stigma attached, and obesity is often viewed and treated very differently than many other more commonly accepted chronic diseases. Additionally, medical education across the spectrum has not consistently prioritized the topic. Many physicians report that they do not clearly understand what obesity medicine is and feel unequipped to counsel their patients about diet and weight loss. The FMA is offering this webinar to provide evidence-based education and share supportive strategies/tools so that physicians are better equipped to manage patients who present with accompanying issues related to diet, weight gain, or obesity.
At the end of the presentation, learners will be able to:- Appreciate the goals and objectives of obesity medicine
- Evaluate their current skills and implement strategies to improve their ability to support patients who are challenged by diet issues, weight gain or obesity
- Recognize when referral to an obesity specialist might be optimal/li>
