The FMA is committed to providing physicians with professional development and educational opportunities that will strengthen their ability to succeed and thrive in whatever professional setting they choose to practice within. Today's healthcare professionals are facing unprecedented organizational, cultural, and professional changes and challenges. With this in mind, the FMA has collaborated with a variety of experts to develop a series of online courses intended to support the leadership skills of Florida physicians. This particular module addresses unconscious bias and how it serves as a obstacle to both workplace relationships and equity in the care provided by healthcare professionals. At the start of the course, learners will be asked to write down the names of people who make up their 'wisdom circle." Ultimately the goal is to support learners in taking the necessary steps to transition from unconscious bias to conscious inclusion.
Course Objectives: As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
Identify the impact of unconscious bias in healthcare
Assess their own tendencies for unconscious bias
Describe the neurological and sociological roots of unconscious bias
Take steps to achieve positive change - from unconscious bias to conscious inclusion
