Emotional Intelligence Series: 3. Social Awareness - Influencing Others
This course is the third in a series of four modules on Emotional Intelligence. Modules 2-4 each include a brief re-cap of the previous module so learners may choose to complete some or all of these modules based on their own personal and professional goals. The intent of this series is to provide physicians with a deeper level of understanding of emotional intelligence and how emotions can drive behavior and impact people both positively and negatively. Managing emotions (both your own and those around you) can be particularly important in many professional situations like giving and receiving feedback, meeting deadlines, dealing with challenging relationships (colleagues and patients), navigating organizational change, handling negotiations and disagreements, and working through setbacks and conflicts. This third module addresses social awareness and how it can impact a person's ability to lead or influence others.
Course Objectives: As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
Discuss social and organizational awareness
Identify how image and exposure influence your ability to lead and influence
Describe how Performance, Image and Exposure can impact success
Recognize how the lack of interpersonal skills can impact your career
Understand the Pygmalion Effect and its impact on the workplace
